The KILTED Cruise
March 2019
Dean was taken down to the tropics for one final cruise and to be scattered at his final resting place. We left Charleston on the Carnival Ecstasy and set sail for the Bahamas. Many loving friends and family joined us in celebrating Dean’s life – we call those friends and family our ‘village’.
The first night was great! That next day was a sea day. We all met up on deck and toasted Dean´s life. We shared many stories, laughs, and tears. When we raised our glasses just after noon to toast him, there was a crazy hailstorm on the deck of the ship. Thank you, Dean!
Then things took a turn. The two nights preceding Dean’s scattering, the ship rocked and tossed like crazy! Half the boat was sick. We have never encountered such motion before. Then we spent a beautiful afternoon scattering Dean on Princess Cay. With friends gathered around us, a poem about returning to the sea was read aloud as we let him go into the crystal blue water. After Dean was set free, the waters were eerily calm and the boat ride back home was as smooth as glass.
The KILTED Cruise raised several thousand dollars for the Scholarship Fund. Clan Douglas will be forever grateful for those who surrounded us with their love and support and will always cherish our time on the KILTED Cruise.
